Jax Taylor Admits He Wasn’t Meant to Be Married to Brittany Cartwright

Jax Taylor confessed that he never thought he was the marriage type.

“I think about it now, and I just don’t personally think I am supposed to be in a relationship,” The Valley star, 45, said on the Thursday, May 1, episode of his “In the Mind of Jax Taylor” podcast. “I just don’t think I’m supposed to be married. You know, I’ve known this my whole life.”

Taylor explained that when he met ex-wife Brittany Cartwright he thought things would be “different” since he had such strong feelings for her.

“I love her and I want to be with her, and I — this is what you should do, you know?” he continued. “And deep, deep, deep down inside, I’ve always known that I just … I was never the person to get married.”

Now that he and Cartwright, 36, are no longer together, Taylor is unsure if he wants to get back in the dating game. As for right now, Taylor is “absolutely not” looking to date.

“The person wasn’t the problem,” he explained. “Like, Brittany wasn’t the problem — I’m the problem … I get bored being in relationships. I don’t wanna be in a relationship. I just don’t like it.”

While being in a relationship isn’t something Taylor prefers, he does “love being a father” to his and Cartwright’s 4-year-old son Cruz. In addition to being there for his little one, he shared that he’ll always be a shoulder Cartwright can lean on.

“I will always be there for Brittany and I will be her biggest supporter,” he said. “But I’ll also be very protective of her too, whether she likes it or not.”

Taylor and Cartwright met in 2015 and tied the knot four years later. Throughout their relationship, the pair had their fair share of ups and downs. In February 2024, Cartwright shared that she and Taylor were “taking time apart” after going through a rough patch.

“Marriages are very hard and I had a particularly rough year,” she said on February 29. “Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health. I won’t get into too many details right now because this is still really hard to talk about.”
